The Portcullis Club held a luncheon at Biggin Hall on Friday 9th November 2018 and we are delighted to report it was a resounding success!
Our guest speaker Ed Maudling captivated his audience with wonderful reminiscences of his remarkable life growing up in Downing Street as son of Chancellor of the Exchequer Reginald Maudling. He brought family photographs, letters from the Queen and his father's red Budget box, which we enjoyed being photographed with.
His wife Annie Maudling then showed us the products of their Tissington-based company On A Wick And A Prayer, which makes candles, ceramics and similar beautiful items; guests were able to purchase early Christmas presents.
The meal was truly scrumptious, with a wide choice, and served in the delightful environment of the 17th century house just off the Ashbourne Road.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Portcullis Club members and other guests. With your continuing support we can look forward to more exciting events with the Portcullis Club.
Our next event is a visit to the House of Commons on Wednesday April 3rd 2019, arranged with the kind assistance of the office of David Ruttley MP.
The House is sitting and it is Prime Minister's Questions day, the first after our exit from the European Union the week before. The atmosphere should be very exciting!
