High Peak Conservative MP Andrew Bingham has praised the enthusiasm of two fellow Conservatives this week, as they prepare to stand for High Peak Borough Council at this years local elections in May.
The two candidates are Jamie Douglas, aged 32, and Will Rowlands, who at 18 will be one of the youngest candidates in the country. Between them the two candidates – who will be standing in the Howard Town Ward of Glossop – have a combined age of just 50.
Andrew said, “Jamie and Will are probably going to be the youngest team standing for any ward in the whole of the High Peak, and I believe that Will is one of the youngest candidates anywhere in the country.
“To have two youthful candidates who have such enthusiasm is fantastic. Not only for the local Conservative party but also for residents, who in Jamie and Will have two very strong candidates with the necessary enthusiasm and energy to be excellent councillors for the ward.”
Jamie Douglas is also the chairman of the Glossopdale branch of High Peak Conservatives, and commented, “I’m determined to work hard for local residents, as they deserve strong representation on the council. I’m delighted to have Will standing alongside me, as he really is an old head on young shoulders.
“I know that should Will and I be elected, we have the right blend of youth, enthusiasm and experience to be able to do a good job representing local residents.”
Will Rowlands added, “I’m very proud to be one of the Conservative candidates for Howard Town Ward. I’ve lived and grown up in Glossop, and I’m very pleased to have the chance to represent local people on the council.
“I’m sure that people will try to put me down because of my age, but I prefer to concentrate on getting elected so that I can do the best job possible for local residents.”
