Conservative spokesmen for Howard Town Ward Jamie Douglas and Will Rowlands have spoken up following news that the block of buildings at the crossroads of High Street East and Victoria Street are in line for much needed improvements.
The news that the buildings may be in line for a grant comes soon after news that the Howard Town Mill development is to restart, with work on the Mill expected to be finished later this year.
After hearing of the news, Jamie Douglas said, "If these buildings are improved then it will be yet more good news for residents of Howard Town ward and for the local area. Improvements to these buildings are sorely needed, as almost the whole row of buildings has been in a dilapidated state for many years now."
Will Rowlands added, "I welcome the news that these buildings may be improved, as they are an eyesore right in the centre of town. A lot of them have peeling paint, broken or dirty upstairs windows, and some tired-looking shop fronts; and fixing all that would improve the look of the area hugely."
