At the last Buxton Coffee Club of 2014, John Jones (known as JJ) gave an enthralling talk about his career in the Police. He told us about when he was choosing what he wanted to do, and he drew up a list of possible careers, including lawyer, journalist, actor and of course the Police service. He had gained a scholarship to RADA, but when he stuck a pin in the list of careers, it landed in the 'Police'. He said that he had enjoyed every day of his 35 years and even though it is 19 years since he retired as a Detective Superintendent, he would go back tomorrow if he could. He began in 1959 as a cadet in Birkenhead, where he served for 5 years before moving to London.
