Buxton Coffee Club

Hats were very much in evidence on Friday 26th at the Old Hall as the first speaker of the new season at the Buxton Coffee Club was Bill Weston MBE.  Bill charted his life through the different hats he has worn - from babyhood, when he was the youngest of 5 children and acknowledged his admiration for mothers, through the other stages of boyhood when he was being looked after by adults - at school and in the Cubs.  As a Cub, he got his first taste of "being on show", when the Carnival included a huge figure of 'Spud the Terrier' and the smallest Cub (Bill) was required to lead the dog through the streets.

Afternoon Tea in New Mills

As part of New Mills Festival, New Mills Volunteer Centre was the venue on Sunday 21st September for a "Tea Tasting" event.  James Pogson of Northern Tea Merchants, Chesterfield spoke about the different blends of tea and where they are grown.  Tea picking cannot be mechanised as only the smallest shoots are used in the making of our favourite brew and, therefore, the best tea pickers are highly regarded in their locality.

100 Club Draw

The 100 Club Draw for September took place on 10th September and the winning numbers were: 4, 41 and 120.

HPCA 100 Club Draw

The High Peak Conservative Association 100 Club Draw for August 2014 took place during the "Summer Lunch" organised by Blackbrook, Combs & Whaley Bridge branch at Stubbins Lane, Chinley on Saturday 30th August.  The winning numbers were 31,106 and 75.The Summer Lunch was a very successful event, hugely enjoyed by all the 40 members who attended.  Many thanks are due to the organisers and particular gratitude to Frances and Geoffrey Watson for hosting the event, and working so hard to make it a great success.

Summer Spectacular at Gawsworth Hall

On Sunday 10th August 28 folks 'braved the elements' to take part in the Summer Spectacular and were amply rewarded with a superb champagne picnic tea in the grounds of Gawsworth Hall.  Fortunately, the rain, thunder and lightning held off while the coronation chicken, ham and salad, followed by strawberry and blueberry meringues were eaten, and glasses of champagne were drunk.

HPCA 100 Club Draw

The HPCA 100 Club Draw for July 2014 took place on 29th July at the meeting of Blackbrook, Combs and Whaley Bridge branch.  The winning numbers were 16, 78 and 62.  Congratulations to the 3 winners.

Glossopdale Branch Summer Barbecue

The Glossopdale branch Barbecue was once again a very enjoyable event.  It took place on Sunday 29th June at the home of Mr & Mrs Higginbottom and, as so often in the past, was blessed with fine weather.  The food, the meeting up with many friends and the delightful setting, were enjoyed by all.

Buxton Coffee Club - 30th May

The last Buxton Coffee Club of this season took place on Friday 30th May when Mr Richard Astle, Inclusion Manager for Derby County Football Club, gave a talk about his work in the community.  Richard said he has 2 jobs at Derby County - he is a part time coach of the Under-12 players at the Academy and has a full time role with the Community Trust at Pride Park which was renamed the iPro Stadium last November.

Glossopdale Coffee Club
